The image header that I put, a double image of myself, and the title of my blog, are all one package. The photo is created using a double exposure method: I expose the same negative twice (yes, I still use negatives for my photos).

This is how it done: I use a tripod for my camera, so it will stays stable. For the first image on the right (me holding the book and looks like I’m giving and explanation), I put a lamp directed to me and I also concentrated it only at me so the left part of the picture stays dark and unexposed. For the second image of me on the left (grinning and nodding, pretending to understand) I just move the lamp at me again and again left the right part dark and unexposed. For both of the exposure I use a timer.
And the result is quite nice, although there are some minor things that I forget. 1) The first one is quite obvious: I should use a non-reflecting book so there are no annoying reflection that saturated the picture. 2) Although I try to keep a leakage of light, there are still a leak in the right side of the picture, which made the image of me in the left look shadowy.
I made the print for this photo at Erik Prasetya and Ayu Utami’s house. Erik taught me photography and how to develop negatives and make a print. He even comments on my photographs and gave insights about the philosophy of photography. Ayu then provided the title for the photo: Mengajar diri Sendiri (Teaching Oneself), a catchy and nice title that later becomes the title of this blog. Does the title sounds lonely? Hey, you have to look at the subtitle! Notice the “lonely” word there? Go figures!
P.S. Ayu, don’t sue me for copyright infringement, okay? I don’t get money from this site
